Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about counselling with Laura Withington.

What areas do you specialise in?

I support adults (18+) with a wide range of challenges including anxiety and social anxiety, depression and low mood, stress and burnout, bereavement and grief, relationships and family issues, self-esteem and confidence, loss and life transitions, neurodiversity, work-related issues, career coaching and redundancy, body image and personal development, peri/menopause experiences, health-related issues, and loss of identity or purpose.

What type of therapy do you offer?

I work as an integrative counsellor, drawing primarily from a person-centred approach with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) integrated where it feels helpful. Person-centred therapy places you at the heart of every session — I will not tell you what to do, but will support you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs and behaviours. CBT can offer practical strategies to support you in moving forward.

Where are you based and do you offer online sessions?

I offer in-person sessions in the Wirral on Mondays and Wednesdays, and in Liverpool on Thursdays. Online sessions are available on Tuesdays and can be flexible. I work with clients from across the UK online.

What are your session fees?

Sessions start from £55. I offer a free 15-minute enquiry phone call before any commitment. Please get in touch to discuss current availability and fees.

When are you available?

I work Monday to Thursday with morning, afternoon and evening appointments available. Mondays and Wednesdays are in-person at the Wirral; Thursdays in-person in Liverpool; Tuesdays are online only.

What happens in the first session?

After your free enquiry call, the first full session explores why counselling is needed now, how your issues are impacting your day-to-day life and what you would like to achieve. It also gives us both a chance to see if we are the right fit. From there, we agree on a regular weekly slot and decide whether sessions will be short-term, long-term or open-ended.

How long does therapy last?

This depends entirely on your needs and goals. We can work in a time-limited way (agreeing a set number of sessions) or open-ended. We will agree an initial number of sessions and review regularly to ensure the work is meeting your needs. You can end at any time.

Is everything I say kept confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. Everything you share is private, with limited exceptions required by law (for example, if there is serious risk of harm). I will always be transparent about the boundaries of confidentiality from the outset. All work is conducted in accordance with BACP ethical guidelines.
